MIKE SMITH - The Voice of the Dave Clark Five

Most of us knew Mike Smith through the music of the Dave Clark Five. Mike provided that dominating vocal, plus amazing keyboards, versatile song-writing, and wonderful stage presence. His good-time energy fed part of our childhood. And then...

Many of us were blessed again when Mike Smith toured the USA in 2003 with..."Mike Smith's Rock Engine" That excellent band covered several DC5 hits as they presented a dynamic magazine of classic rock-and-roll songs to audiences across the United States. But then...

In October 2003, Mike fell from a fence at his home in Spain, and wound up being hospitalized in England for over four years. With the perservering help of his wife Charlie, with the incredible support and encouragement of his fans, and by the grace of God, Mike courageously fought for his life. His kindness and strength of character through those times was an inspiration to all of us. Mike finally returned home for Christmas 2007, but then died February 28, 2008. He leaves a legacy of great music, and ultimately became a man of faith and character. On all three counts, he has been an inspiration to many of us. - RKB

"If somebody loves you - you're the luckiest man in the world.
If somebody needs you - well, what else could you want?
'Cos "lovers" come and go, and I think you know just what I mean.
But real love ... you know the difference right away."

- MS from the title track to the DC5's final album "If Somebody Loves You"
